The LVH Hotel Las Vegas - (Now named The Westgate Resort and Casino)

 

The Westgate Las Vegas Resort and Casino is a hotel and casino complex located in Winchester Nevada.  The hotel has 2,956 rooms and over 300 suites.  It was originally opened in 1969 as the International Hotel and then was known for great many years as the Las Vegas Hilton before briefly being named as the LVH.  On the 1st July 2014 the hotel was rebranded again as the Westgate Las Vegas

Hotel Information

The hotel is over 30 stories tall and is located on over 60 acres. The casino floor space is over 70,000 square feet and the hotel contains the largest sports book in all of Las Vegas. The hotel is located next to the Las Vegas Convention center and also has its own convention center on site.  The hotel is also connected to the Las Vegas Monorail and has a monorail station that connects guests to the Vegas Strip.

Hotel History

The hotel was built in 1969 by Kirk Kerkorian and when it was originally opened was the largest hotel in the world. The hotel is famous for being the home of the King “Elvis Presley” who played 58 consecutive shows at the hotel and broke all the records for attendances in Las Vegas.   While playing at the hotel he lived in the penthouse suite located on the top floor and stayed there until his last concert in 1976.  He was originally due to take up residence again at the hotel in 1978 before his untimely death in 1977.  Overall Elvis played at the hotel for nearly 10 years, during which he helped Vegas become one of the world’s premier tourist destinations.
When the hotel was sold to the Hilton in 1970 and renamed as the Las Vegas Hilton they had Liberace headline the showroom drawing sold out crowds twice a night. The contract he earned per week totalled $300,000 a week at the time a record for individual entertainers in Las Vegas.

The hotel is also known for its boxing bouts and is where Leon Spinks defeated the great Muhammad Ali for the world heavyweight championship in 1978. It is also where Mike Tyson became the undisputed champion of the world in 86.

Entertainment & Shows

In 1993 the Vegas version of Starlight Express opened at the Las Vegas Hilton. The Andrew Lloyd Webber Musical was a resounding success and led many other acts such as Reba McEntire and Barry Manilow to become headline acts at the hotel.

Currently the hotel is home to The King starring Trent Carlini who has the longest running show at the LVH.  He currently performs 6 nights a week as the best Elvis impersonator that Vegas has to offer!

The classic rock tribute show Raiding the Rock Vault began playing at the LVH.  The incredibly popular show has been a great success for the hotel and is perfect for those looking to enjoy some classic rock.

The hotel was used as the infamous Whyte House Casino in the James Bond Movie Diamonds Are Forever.
